KARHUMAA+SKORPIO is a collective formed by two artists for collaborative art projects. Working together they conjure up a Third Mind*, a collective form of being which could be described as an apparently effortless absorption of ideas, feelings, attitudes etc., as if by biological osmosis.

Satu Karhumaa
Satu Karhumaa (BFA, Turku University of Applied Sciences’s Art Academy) mostly works with sculpture, installation, video and sound, with background in experimental music and ceramics. They get inspired by themes left hidden, sub-surface, kept silent about, discarded, abandoned and forgotten in what is called normal, everyday life.
I ponder the formation of identities, personas and stereotypes. I muse on the diversity of one person and the uniformity of masses. I mull over how society puts pressure on an individual and the coping mechanisms of humans. I examine how an impersonal figure can express emotions and how humanity and mechanisms relate to each others.
Niko Skorpio
Niko Skorpio (MA, Aalto University) works with images, sound and miscellaneous lost & found material. His works have been shown in galleries and events worldwide. His background in experimental underground music and graphic design reaches back to the 1990s.
Mapping intuitive spaces is central to my artistic practice. I favour chance and other means of rejecting control in order to surrender power to subconscious forces. The pursuit of alienation from human nature may reveal something about being human in this time and space.
